Improving Core Web Vitals in WordPress is definitely a balancing act, but here’s what has worked for me in 2025:
- Use a lightweight theme + optimized builder – Themes like GeneratePress or Blocksy (with native Gutenberg) are much leaner than Elementor-heavy setups. If you must use Elementor, try their container-based layout instead of sections/columns.
- Caching & performance plugins – Tools like WP Rocket, FlyingPress, or LiteSpeed Cache (if your host supports it) handle most of the heavy lifting (HTML caching, CSS/JS minification, lazy loading).
- Optimize images & media – WebP/AVIF formats plus a plugin like Imagify or ShortPixel reduce LCP issues. Also, set proper dimension attributes to prevent CLS.
- Fonts & critical CSS – Serve fonts locally (via OMGF or Bunny Fonts) and enable “preload critical CSS” features in performance plugins. This usually fixes render-blocking and layout shifts.
- Reduce unused scripts – Use Asset CleanUp or Perfmatters to disable unnecessary CSS/JS on pages that don’t need them. This has a huge impact on FID/INP.
- Hosting & CDN – A fast host (like Cloudways, Kinsta, or WP Engine) combined with a CDN (Cloudflare, Bunny.net) ensures global speed and consistent TTFB.
